Furloughs
Mayor Barrett has suggested mandatory employee furloughs as cost saving measure. The proposal is for all general city employees to take two unpaid days off a year. There are many problems with the proposal, the Water Works is a 24-7 operation and the savings that would come from shutting down a “business hours” city office or facility wouldn’t add up to much at the Water Works. There are also contract issues, furloughing of employees is not covered under any labor contract. To learn more read the files in the file cabinet.
