In a major win for Unions a Federal Judge struck down two parts of Scott Walker’s anti Union Act 10.  The requirement for annual certification and the collecting of dues from pay checks are gone.  This means that once the changes go into effect we may be able to collect dues from our pay checks again.  For many former members of AFSCME Local 952 paying their dues by bank draft was a major hold up for rejoining our local, this will not be a problem any more.

Under Act 10 significant changes were made to our Union designed to cripple it and the power of the working class that it represents.  Governor Scott Walker is afraid of Unions because he knows that power that a Union can wield.  Using Act 10 Governor Walker has attempted to break the Unions.  Although he has created significant roadblocks for our future he has failed to destroy us.  We need you to rejoin AFSCME Local 952 and continue the fight for our rights.  Its only through the solidarity of our Union that we get rid of Governor Walker, gain back our rights to collectively bargain and win a new contract.

In the spring when the job data supported his claim that his plan was working Governor Walker loved these numbers.  Now that the data is showing the biggest job losses in the nation he’s blaming the numbers and calling them unreliable.

Dane County Judge MaryAnn Sumi today issued a permanent injunction against Governor Walker’s collective bargaining bill.  The bill is dead until taken up by the Wisconsin Supreme Court.  Judge Sumi’s decision (PDF File) states that there was, “clear and convincing evidence” that the Republicans violated the State’s open meeting laws with their swift passage of the bill.
